DIGITAL MEDIA PROJECT
THEME OF DAWN
Hi I m Piotrek HND2 Graphic Design student
at Cardonald College. I am an energetic, cheerful person who is not afraid of new challenges and tasks.
I am interested in photography and design. My favourite aspect in design are illustrations. I like the whole process from idea to final effect.
We were asked to create two creative posters based around the theme of Dawn.
My idea is based on searching for the dawn. The first rays of the sun, something unique, something that we do not forget. Dawn are commonly associated with the new beginning, end of a dark era or advent of a glorious era.
My concept, idea, was taken from hunters, people waiting in peace who are waiting for the right moment to get what they want in this case -dawn. The style I wanted to go with was vintage at some point and mix with many colours to make my design more attractive for the audience.
I get inspirited by one of my favourite illustrator Dan Hillier. Most of his work is made from collaging found Victorian with his own ink drawings. His work is characterized by depiction of fantastical human/animal hybrids.
All the elements of the posters were drawn by me and then scanned in. After that I was playing with difference techniques like cutting, collage, playing with colors to get the best effect. This time I focus more on illustration and left type face in the background. That way its look a bit plain. First illustration shows a hybrid of a man and a deer, I used a collage here, made of newspapers and magazines and then scanned and continued to work in the Photoshop program. Using tools like levels, curves, hue/saturation and color balance to polish all design. The background is drawn and also scanned. presents the forest from the bottom perspective and refined with the same methods.
The second of the illustrations shows the archer hunting for deer hunting at dawn which is supposed to suggest hunting for the first rays of the sun. This design as the previous one was drawn scanned but the method of processing was moved to illustrator. All lines (hunter and deer) were made thanks to the vector method using pen, curvature, and line tools. I have sketched a tree in the background and scanned it, and then start experimenting with color saturation. The sun in both cases is made of cardboard and again scanned and polish in Photoshop. I tried to keep both posters in a similar scenery with similar elements like deer and trees and of course the name for both illustrations.
After finishing the whole process, I think that my works are quite interesting in terms of the visual aspect and quite accurately reflect what we asked for. Two things that I would change is a different font and I would leave both posters in the same position ( vertical).
Have a nice look…
